Ok Dawn some early Beatle trivia. This record was not on Capital records in the USA, but on the Chicago based label Vee Jay it also had Andy White on drums not Ringo.
I just read Andy White, also performed in the song "Please Please Me" and on the single B-side, "P.S. I Love You".
White, also performed with: Chuck Berry, Billy Fury, Herman's Hermits and Tom Jones.
And he now teaches scotch field drum which by the way is a very cool marching band style.
Ringo was an unknown element to George Martin. He also did not want to go with an unknown drummer. So the drumming on the single was handled by Andy White. Ringo played a tambourine on the single. However, Ringo can be heard playing Love Me Do on their first album, and a slightly different version can be heard on the CD The Beatles Past Masters Volume One. This version was recorded Sept. 4 with Ringo on drums.
Off topic just a bit, I just got a E-mail about Sir Paul's new album due out on Feb 7th. It's produced by Tommy Li Puma and has Diana Krall and her band as back up. along for the ride is Stevie Wonder and Eric Clapton This is one of the only times Paul was recorded in a Vocal box,and not playing.
Tom, Thank you for the very interesting triva. It would be awesome to find a video with Andy White, playing drums.
Thank you Paul, I will look for Paul's new album... I'm a huge Eric Clapton fan.
