Led Zeppelin: Stairway to Heaven.

"Stairway to Heaven" is beautiful song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released in late 1971. It was composed by guitarist Jimmy Page and vocalist Robert Plant for the band's untitled fourth studio album (usually referred to as Led Zeppelin IV). The song, running eight minutes and two seconds, is composed of several sections, which increase in tempo and volume as the song progresses. The song begins as a slow acoustic-based folk song accompanied by recorders before electric instrumentation is introduced. The final section is a high-tempo hard rock section highlighted by an awesome guitar solo by Page. I remember when the song first came out, all the quy's who played guitar played this song..

Dawn I have a real problem with this tune. The opening acoustic guitar break was ripped off note for note from a song called Taurus by Randy California of the group Spirit. " Or Five guys from L.A. that were the American Pink Floyd." This was Randy's first solo writing credit and he was really pissed for many years. You can hear it for yourself on the Album The Family That Plays Together which also haves the classic I Got a Line On You, or the Best Of Spirit.BTW the Album is still on Lp from Sundazed Music.

Another one of my "love it" rock songs that I have on my player. Again, though, I didn't realize it was from that early in the 70's. I was only 10 then, and definitely not into this kind of music. I got into harder stuff (this, "Dream On", Foghat, Foreigner, etc.) more towards the mid 70's. So, this classic song must still have been quite popular in 1974 for it to have been one of the "love its" in high school.

Actually, this is the only Led Zeppelin song I ever liked.

Opps I gave the wrong album , Tauras is on the Spirt Lp not the one I mentioned. It is also still on Lp from Sundazed. Should never comment until I've had at least 3 coffees.
